YPI opens three offices across Asia
YPI has expanded its presence in Asia, opening three offices across the region in a bid to engage with the Asian market. The Asian market has recently been highlighted across the industry as one of enormous potential, and one with which, as an industry, we should engage.…
“We are the only full service brokerage house with three dedicated offices in china and Hong Kong,” said YPI Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bertrand Vogèle. “We have grown from just one office in Aberdeen Harbour, Hong Kong, to three offices with optimal locations in Shenzhen and Nansha.”
The Asia region has recently been highlighted as a market of huge potential for the superyacht industry. Issue 131 of The Superyacht Report highlights this in its coverage of the Global Superyacht Forum's session on ‘Educating and Engaging new Clients’, as does this year’s Forbes Billionaire List - full of the world's existing and potential superyacht owners - released earlier this month.
According to YPI, almost 11% of the billionaires on Forbes’ list come from China and Hong Kong, with Ki Ka Shing adding a record value to his wealth and becoming the ninth richest man in the world.
“The names change on the list,” said Managing Director of YPI Olivier Besson, “but the wealth remains constant in China today. Marina construction is at an all-time high and Chinese investors and industry are buying into some of Europe’s ailing but renowned yacht builders so the next generation of quality superyachts from the likes of Ferretti [recently acquired by China-based SHIG-Weichai], for example, can be built here in China.”
Vogele continued: “The only way to properly serve our Asian clients is to provide the full YPI brokerage, charter, management and new-construction service, and with a team that understands China and how Chinese people want to enjoy their yachting.”
Speaking exclusively to SuperyachtNews.com, Vogèle explained YPI Asia’s development: “The last year has been a busy one for YPI Asia. We brought a lot of interested buyers to Europe’s leading yacht shows last year and our Chinese team, who have a very strong base and network in China, have been developing relationships with a number of important players there including companies like leading Chinese yacht builder, Kingship. We have a 5-year plan for YPI Asia and so far we are achieving the goals we set ourselves – the market is moving very fast.”
