French investigation team to deliver 'Yogi' report by October

French marine investigation team BEA Mer will deliver its report on the sinking of Yogi by the end of the month. The confirmation reached SuperyachtNews on the opening day of Cannes International Yacht Show.…

Results of an investigation into the sinking of Yogi, which sank in February off the coast of Skyros, Greece, is expected from her French flag registry by the end of the month, it was revealed to SuperyachtNews.com on the first day of Cannes International Yacht Show.

Registre International Français (RIF), the registry the Proteksan Turquoise built yacht was flagged under before the incident, in accordance with its obligation to investigate the incident, has recruited the French marine investigation team Bureau Euquete Accident (BEA) Mer to ascertain the cause of the sinking.

RIF told SuperyachtNews.com that BEA Mer's incoming director, Daniel Le Direach, who took up his post on 1 September, has promised the long-awaited results report by the end of September.

Eight crew members were rescued by a Puma helicopter when Yogi sank

The results could have far reaching impact on the superyacht industry. At the Superyacht Fiscal Summit in March CRS Yachts’ Simon Ballard predicted Yogi’s sinking will not only change the perception of superyachts as ultra-low risk assets, forcing the price of premiums up, but may also be the subject of a ‘protracted pay-out process’.
