Yacht Solutions opens new Bangkok site

Yacht Solutions and Italthai Marine's joint venture superyacht facility, 45 minutes from Bangkok, will be able to refit yachts over 100m in size as well as 'emergency' and maintenance projects.…

Yacht Solutions and Italthai Marine have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create a superyacht facility just outside of Bangkok capable of servicing yachts over 100m.

Phuket island based Yacht Solutions and Italthai Marine, Thailand’s largest shipbuilding company, was created to meet to increased demand for superyacht refit and repair facilities in the Asian region. Numbers of owners and cruising yachts in the area continue to rise say the company, making the launch timely as well as fulfilling its long held business plan:

“We have been in the marine refit and repair business in Thailand for over ten years and we have been looking for a deep water facility for the last two years," said Gareth Twist, managing director of Yacht Solutions. "We are very excited to be at Italthai Marine as this is the perfect site for us.”

The 112,000 square metre facility is located 45 minutes from Bangkok airport, and is easy to navigate from the sea being near the mouth of the Chao Phraya River in Samut Prakam.

The company says its size and the heavy duty handling capacity of its equipment make it the largest refit facility in Southeast Asia. It has a lifting capacity of up to 95 metres and 3,500 tonnes, access to two 115 metre dry docks, a 300 metre alongside berthing and a floating dock of up to 160 metres.

Yacht Solutions said that in addition to larger projects, it needed the deep-water facility to cater for shorter emergency and maintenance projects.

The site is ‘ideal’ because of its proximity to the vibrant city of Bangkok and Bangkok international airport, making it attractive to owners, captains and crew.

“We have a tremendous pool of talented craftsmen here in Thailand and this facility combines European management, standards and quality with the renowned finishing skills of Thai craftsmen," said Twist.

“With this facility we are able to compete with the European yards but with the distinct advantage of a lower labour cost base”.

Wirat Chana, managing director of Italthai Marine said he was “delighted to now offer a superyacht division at Italthai Marine shipyard.”

YachtSolutions most recently completed refit projects on 43m Douce France and 30m Merrymaid, both extensive refits finalised in the last five months at the Italthai site.
