After the acquisition of Westport Yachts by the family-owned marine conglomerate Edison Chouest Offshore, the prolific builder is set to benefit from Chouest's broad marine network.

Chouest owns American Custom Yachts and Venture, both located in Stuart, Florida, where plans for an expanded hard standing and covered area are being planned to accommodate service for Westport's larger vessels up to 50m.

"Our current sales and service centre along the New River is great, but is a bit limited in terms of the number of big boats we can get up here," said sales director Mark Masciarotte. "We'll be able to haul out there and have a dedicated space for our equipment and service teams, so it's great."

Both ACY and Venture build high-spec boats, so their workmanship and approach will mesh well with Westport's, explained Daryl Wakefield, president of Westport.

Plans are also underway to further renovate Westport's New River facility, which will eventually provide a further 50m slip and a new three-story complex for service, brokerage and sales.

"The Chouest family owns a lot of businesses and they really know what they're doing when it comes to building, owning, chartering, maintaining and selling," said Masciarotte.
