Greeted by a crowd of almost 200 guests, friends, clients, colleagues and industry professionals gathered along La Salle Empire Terrace of the Hotel de Paris, the convoy of 17 vintage and modern supercars that made up the Redman Whiteley Dixon Auto Tour 2012 arrived in Casino Square, Monaco on 18 September after driving three days from Chilston Park in Kent to Monte Carlo.

Sponsored by Moet & Chandon, Veritas International and MarineGuard, the Tour took three days to complete the journey. Day one saw the convoy stop at the Moet & Chandon Chateau in Epernay for lunch and a private tour of the cellars before spending the night at the Hotel L’Ésperance just outside Vezelay where dinner was prepared by Marc Meneau, a three Michelin-starred chef.

On the second day, the Tour sped south through beautiful French villages, stopping just north of Lyon for another delicious lunch, this time at Maison des Contes before continuing on to Provence. Once the convoy reached the hill-top hotel of Crillon le Brave, the team were met with a cold beer and a chance to share tales of the open road and reflect on another fantastic day of motoring.

The third and final day began with an extremely early start and a pre-breakfast drive to the top of Mont Ventoux to watch the sun-rise over Provence. After breakfast the Tour went on to Monaco, where the group was met at the border between France and the principality by a police escort which led the convoy through the busy streets of Monte Carlo and into Casino Square.

“We like to keep the tour fresh every year and 2012 was no exception with a new route that delivered a greater variety of driving conditions, allowing navigator, driver and car to fully engage and enjoy the journey,” says Justin Redman, one of the partners at Redman Whiteley Dixon. “We are fortunate to have shared this year’s tour with an inspiring and intrepid group of friends, colleagues, suppliers, clients and new sponsors Moet & Chandon and Veritas MarineGuard, all of whom were determined to have as much fun as possible.”

The Redman Whiteley Dixon Auto Tour has become a real tradition over the years and the cars from the Tour can always be spotted in Monte Carlo during the Monaco Yacht Show. “Having been aware of the tour for a number of years it was a clear choice for MarineGuard and Veritas to become a part of it,” says Richard Webb, managing director at MarineGuard. “The combination of classic cars and the beauty of the French countryside made our journey to the Monaco Yacht Show 2012 an unforgettable experience. We are so proud to have been a part of this year’s impressive convoy.”

Look out for more on this year's RWD Auto Tour in the coming weeks from Martin Redmayne, editor-in-chief of The Superyacht Group, who took part in this unique journey.
