New Lanzarote marina to offer refits
Puerto Calero Marina, scheduled to open in 2013, will meet a growing demand for refit services and berths in the Canaries. …
Managing the project is Puerto Calero Marinas, operators of the Lanzarote marina of the same name and of nearby La Palma island marina.
Puerto Calero marina has steadily seen demand for berths increase – a demand which it met in 2006 by adding new berths. Now, there is simply 'no more space' to expand, either in terms of refit facilities or berths. The new marina at Lanzarote's capital therefore, named Marina Lanzarote, is the logical step to meet the demand. It will also offer the area, which is already the ideal pitstop for vessels en route to Caribbean cruising grounds, a much needed refit service. José Juan Calero, Managing Director of Puerto Calero Marinas explained:
“We are looking forward to finally being able to meet refit requirements for superyachts with the latest technology here in the Canaries. Our berths in Puerto Calero are also now completely full for the Autumn period – there is a surplus demand which Marina Lanzarote is ideally positioned to meet."
At Arrecife, superyachts will be amply catered for in terms of refit. There will be a 60m paint shed – the only one in Spain to fit a yacht of that size – and two travelifts, of 100 and 700 tonnes.

The marina will also have the benefits of being at the island’s capital, meaning a great destination for crew and owners, who can take advantage of the town’s nightlife, its buzz and the island’s racing and sporting culture concentrated there.
Arrecife marina will be the complimentary opposite to Calero - a private, comparatively isolated marina. The two will share a luxury focus however, with restaurants and boutique shops planned for Arrecife. As such it seems to tick all boxes – great refit facilities, an attractive and safe destination in a consistently warm climate, and none of the transportation or time hassles of moving a yacht from refit yard to marina for overwintering.

Work on Arrecife, which will consist of developing an existing harbour, starts in February with trenching. Development of the land will begin in May, with a total completion date of Autumn 2013. Between both Lanzarote marinas - Puerto Calero and Marina Lanzarote - there will be a total of 24 berths ranging 35m to 60m.
