On 31 October a funding project by Kickstarter, for the rebuild of racing yacht Britannia, will go live.

Kickstarter, a funding platform for creative projects, will use the money donated by those who pledge for the interior and engineering work that is being carried out on the vessel, which was originally launched in 1893.

Over the next 40 days following the project going live online, those who want to pledge will be able to make donation and be able to receive rewards including original sketches, crew clothing, and rigging blocks.

"Britannia shares her noble heritage and her history with the people of the United Kingdom," said Scott Ward, founder of K1 Britannia, the company behind the rebuild. "By putting her design and engineering on Kickstarter to be crowd funded we are giving people a chance to share in the experience of bringing this part of history back to life."

Following her rebuild Britannia will be used for maritime education, programmes for veterans and for charitable fundraisers for between 80-100 charities.

Britannia is currently being stripped and prepared at Venture Quays in Cowes so that the engineering and design work can be carried out. You can read more about the rebuild of Britannia here.
