Work begins on regeneration of Pier 46

Work has begun on the regeneration of Pier 46 in Palma. Once completed Palma Moll Vell, as it will be known, will house 26 berths for superyachts between 25m and 40m.…

Work has begun on Palma Moll Vell, formerly Pier 46, in Palma. Amarres Deportivos SL, a company jointly formed by Bank Pastor and Pantalan del Mediterraneo, was awarded the concession of the regeneration of the largely derelict site in 2010.

It has taken nine months longer than expected for the reconstruction to begin - largely due to delays in receiving the necessary permits from the harbour authority and the town hall - but work is finally underway. This watershed moment was marked by a special ‘demolition party’, organised by the owner of visiting yacht TigerLily, with everyone involved congregating to symbolically begin proceedings.

Oscar Siches, joint managing partner of Palma Moll Vell said that the new facility would be geared towards sailing yachts with “the kind of ambience and community…Moll Vell deserves.” Work is due for completion by the end of 2013 and Siches said that the aim is to stage a special inauguration party to mark the marina’s re-opening in June 2014. The finished project will house 26 berths between 25m and 40m.
