Pendennis Palma First Quarter Success
Pendennis Palma, based at STP Palma, reports a successful first quarter following the facility's official launch in July. Over six refits have already been completed at the Palma site since it opened...…
Tim Dewhurst, the owner’s representative of Gloria, has also been impressed by the new facility: “This is the first project within a Pendennis facility for Gloria, and it has been a pleasure to work alongside a team with such a high level of technical expertise and attention to detail. It is certainly an excellent move for Pendennis to expand here and I am sure the Palma offering will grow from strength to strength.”
Director of the Palma facility, Charlie Ross, who was the chief Project Manager on the recently launched catamaran Hemisphere, is exceptionally pleased with the local reception and the high level of support since the office opened. His expertise in project management combined with a core crew of technical experts that have the backing of Pendennis’ experience of 130+ refits and over 30 new builds provide an invaluable resource. This expertise provides a reliable and professional refit team that successfully expands Pendennis’ support throughout Europe.
Speaking exclusively to SuperyachtNews.com, Christine Winans, Marketing Assistant at Pendennis' Falmouth facility explained that the UK headquarters had not been adversely affected by the early success of the Palma facility:
"We have undertaken over 150 refits in our 23 year history, and the past two years have seen the busiest refits seasons ever, with enquiries strong for the 2012/13 season despite the general economic downturn. What the yachts value above location is uncompromising quality and experience in all relevant in-house trades as well as the long term partnerships that we have formed with many of our clients over the years. I am sure if you ask around the industry these days quality is becoming more important than location…"
Winans said that the two locations offered very distinct services, with Falmouth providing unrivalled expertise that is befitting of extensive refit projects, whilst Palma offers clients short-term maintenance work. The Palma facility therefore, is ideal for readily available solutions for vessels in the midst of their Mediterranean cruising season.
As Winans added, "the new facility in Palma enables Pendennis to effectively manage yacht support projects, warranty work and extended services. It provides ongoing support for our fleet as well as regular client contact. However generally the base in Falmouth is better equipped for more complex interior and exterior refits or rebuilds and the yard here has certainly seen no ill effects from having a Mediterranean base – our bookings for 2011/12 season are as busy as last winter, with enquiries just as strong for 2012/13 for both Pendennis and Pendennis Plus - our 60m+ division."
