MYS EXCLUSIVE: One Ocean open One Ocean Monaco

Following the announcement that Marina Port Vell would rebrand to One Ocean Port Vell in July, SuperyachtNews caught up with general manager Paul Cook to find how Salamanca Group’s superyacht brand is evolving to include a client advisory Monaco office that will offer brokerage among other things, led by Luc Khaldoun.…

“We’ve really grown this year,” says Paul Cook, general manager of Barcelona’s One Ocean Port Vell (formerly Marina Port Vell). “The rebranding has seen us really bring everything we do together under one brand; One Ocean Ventures. It brings together everything from the marina, One Ocean Port Vell, to the club, One Ocean Club.”

The latest string to its bow will be One Ocean Monaco, a client advisory office led by Luc Khaldoun, formerly a broker with Edmiston. “Luc will provide a real holistic service,” says Cook. “He is looking to be the kind of broker that helps owners so much that they want to stay in this industry for a long time. If we can satisfy owners from the very beginning, from the purchase of their yacht, then hopefully they will then be more content and turn to us for berthing, for entertainment and for all the other aspects of ownership.”

With three team members, including Khaldun, the One Ocean Monaco office will offer advice on purchase and sales, charter, new build management, crew, operational and technical management, berth sales and rental, finance and insurance, compliance and yachting regulations, even bringing in Private Office services and lifestyle.

“We want to enable owners to do proper due diligence, which comes back to Salamanca Group, who own the whole One Ocean brand,” says Cook. “They are merchant bankers, FSA regulated in the UK, so we invest money for UHNWI and companies and always go through the due diligence. That filters down to the One Ocean Ventures. As a former yacht captain, I know that owners are in need of increased transparency.”

Cook stresses that One Ocean Monaco will offer full brokerage services itself, not just advice, but will also reach out to other brokerage houses to make sure clients end up with the right thing. “Most of what we do is in house but if we need to get a subject matter expert in we will do,” he says. “We won’t step out of our comfort zone to give someone the answer we think they want. That is something that can happen too much in this industry as it is.”
