Meteor 100

Building of Dixon-designed 30-metre sloop is underway at Yachting Developments to strict Germanischer Lloyd and MCA classification requirements...…

SuperyachtDesign recently took a look at Rhoades Young interior design for the new 30-metre sloop, also known as Meteor 100. The build of this Dixon-deisgned yacht is now well underway at the Auckland-based yard, Yachting Developments and we can now reveal some of the design and material features of the exterior.

Meteor 100 will be built to comply with the strict Germanischer Lloyd and MCA classification requirements. Dixon Yacht Design’s planned use of composite means that she will be exceptionally strong while remaining 25 to 30 per cent lighter than similar vessels built in aluminium. The composite structure is post cure epoxy Eglass/Carbon/Kevlar and incorporates high strength foam sandwich technology. With a Kevlar outer skin, the hull will have outstanding impact resistance and the modern underwater shape will include a high-aspect carbon fibre rudder with direct quadrant non-assisted steering, ensuring that the helmsman has absolute feel. Spars and rigging will be carbon fibre with hydraulic furlers and the mainsheet will be attached to an arch aft keeping the mainsheet clear of passengers and crew.

More details on the progress of this project and Yachting Developments' other builds can be found on our sister site, Synfo, here.
