International SOS company MedAire has bought out Ocean Medical International Ltd (OMI), the superyacht medical kits supplier with production plant in Wales, an anonymous source has confirmed.

A worker on the OMI Wales site also suggested that there would be a reduction of the Welsh workforce once the transaction had been processed. Company owners and directors Dr. David Irons MB ChB, designer of the OMI Medical Kit System; and Dr Ian Marshall, could not be reached for comment.

MedAire responded to a request for comment with a statement from Steven Bates, general manager of Luxury Yachts, MedAire.

"The account teams from both OMI and MedAire are working closely together to ensure clients continue to receive the quality customer service and products that are synonymous with both companies. We are delighted to welcome Ocean Medical International to the group,” he said.

OMI and MedAire operated competing business models in a tight marketplace for superyacht specific medical provision. Both companies offer 27/7 call centres and medical kits for common complaints and life threatening conditions. OMI has serviced the industry since 1991 based out of the UK and with sales networks in Palma and the USA.

The acquisition follows MedAire's acquisition of UK based equipment, training and medical 24/7 company, Yacht Lifeline, in 2011. Under the terms of that agreement Yacht Lifeline’s products and services merged with MedAire and the Yacht Lifeline team joined MedAire including in management positions.
