MB92 strengthens position in La Ciotat

MB92 has acquired the remaining 51 per cent of Blohm+Voss La Ciotat and announced a rebrand of its La Ciotat subsidiaries…

MB92, the Barcelona-based superyacht refit specialist, has today announced that, following approval from La Ciotat Shipyards (SEMIDEP), it has signed an agreement with Blohm+Voss, a subsidiary of the Lürssen Group, to acquire the remaining 51 per cent stake in Blohm+Voss La Ciotat. MB92, which previously held a 49 per cent stake in Blohm+Voss La Ciotat, is now the exclusive operator of the “La Grande Forme” dry dock at La Ciotat Shipyards and takes full ownership and operation of the facility.

As well as purchasing the remaining 51 per cent of the dry dock, MB92 has reaffirmed its commitment to its long-standing working relationship with the Lürssen Group, with agreements in place that extend to all facilities within the MB92 Group.

In November 2017, MB92 acquired a majority stake in Compositeworks, the French refit specialist and La Ciotat resident. The acquisition of Blohm+Voss La Ciotat allows MB92 to merge all of its activities in La Ciotat with Compositeworks, with all employees being integrated into the new structure. The existing offices and facilities on site, including the 200m dry dock, will remain in full operation under the management of the newly formed organisation. MB92 will oversee the merging and rebranding process, which will involve the phasing out of the Blohm+Voss La Ciotat brand, it is due to be completed by September 2018. All MB92 owned companies will work under the MB92 La Ciotat SAS brand.

According to MB92, the new corporate deal demonstrates its commitment to La Ciotat as a key Mediterranean hub for future development. Furthermore, MB92 hopes to be selected by La Ciotat Shipyards in the near future to be the major user of the upcoming 4000t platform, which is to be delivered by 2021.

When approving the acquisition of Blohm+Voss La Ciotat’s final 51 per cent stake by MB92, La Ciotat Shipyards took under advisement three key considerations: the professional and technical skill of MB92, as well as its financial security: “La Grande Forme” will retain its position as a site of reference for the rebuild and repair of Lürssen vessels, with respect to the agreement made between the Lürssen Group and MB92 in 2008: Compositeworks’ interest in the October 2017 call for projects for the 4000t platform.

In celebration of their 25th anniversary, MB92, in partnership with The Superyacht Group, have produced Superyacht25, a collection of icons, images and innovations from the last 25 years of superyachting. The Superyacht25 book is available now from our online shop - for more details and to order your copy, click here.
