Lürssen purchases P+S Werften shipyard
It has been confirmed that Lürssen has purchased P+S Werften's Peene shipyard in Wolgast. The German shipbuilding giant will assume control of the yard on 1 May 2013.…
According to reports in the German press, Lürssen will formally assume control of the yard on 1 May 2013 having paid ‘less than €20 million’ for the P+S facility.
Speaking to SuperyachtNews.com, a Lürssen spokesperson confirmed the deal had gone through but was unable to elaborate at this stage on the intent behind the purchase or how it would be utilised once the ownership transition is completed.
Lürssen was among several suitors identified when the news first surfaced in Autumn 2012. Another major superyacht player who did express an interest in the property was Abu Dhabi MAR’s Nobiskrug.
Although the shipyard has historically been used for the construction and repair of naval and commercial vessels, the fact that its eventual purchaser is one of the most prolific fully custom builders of superyachts, does beg the question –‘What will Peene shipyard’s future purpose be?’
