Dalton Designs diversifies into aviation

The Florida-based superyacht interior design company Dalton Designs has moved into private aircraft interiors, to supplement its marine and residential offerings. “For the past 30 years we have built our business in yacht and residential interior design, but wanted to accommodate all of our clients’ needs and become a one-stop shop”, explained head of Dalton Designs, Liz Dalton.

The company’s first aviation project is Bombardier’s Global Express, which was recently completed and is ready for use by its owner. Speaking to SuperyachtNews.com, Dalton explained that the primary motivation for branching out was to offer the company’s existing clients a one-stop shop for all of their requirements. But she also acknowledged the slowdown in the US superyacht market, which has forced many companies to diversify their offering.

The private aircraft market continues to mirror its superyacht equivalent, with top end models proving more resilient than their cheaper counterparts. “Anyone that high up on the food chain isn’t really affected by [external economic issues] that much, so generally aircraft sales are okay”, Dalton said. But although she has faith in the strength of the private aviation market, “it will remain ancillary to what we do”, she added. “Almost all of our clients at the top end of the business have aircraft.”


Dalton Designs is also currently working on a 32m Burger refit, due to be completed by March 2013, and a 32m Jim Smith-built sportsfisher, due to be launched in May 2013.
