Bering Yachts’ new B18 Explorer

In September of last year, SuperyachtDesign.com reported on the collaboration between Bering Yachts and Sabdes Design on a new series of semi-custom Explorer motoryachts from 15 to 24-metres. The shipyard has since released images of a scale model of its 24-metre version, as well announcing the next model in the series, the 18-metre, B18. “The design is the fourth collaboration project in the series by Bering Yachts Steel Oceangoing Motoryachts,” explains principal designer at Sabdes Design, Scott Blee. “The design is based upon Bering Yachts’ fully engineered semi-custom design.”

Presented at the Trawlerfest in Florida earlier this year, the latest addition to the series promises to deliver economic sailing through the use of either a conventional or hybrid propulsion system. Blee explains that the initial feedback from the market has been positive: “The Bering 18 is one of the most voluminous 18-metre yachts around. With a beam of 5.7-metres, she is unique in the vast accommodation space she can offer for this size vessel.” With four different layout options, the B18 has the possibility of offering accommodation for up to seven guests across three double en suites and a single cabin with en suite facilities.

With the option of a ReGen Nautic electric hybrid system, B18 will be able to achieve a maximum speed just shy of ten knots and a cruising speed of eight knots, with the ability to enter and leave ports under electrical propulsion alone.
