Mastervolt has been recruited by the America’s Cup Race Management (ACRM) to provide all electrical systems to its race support team for the remainder of the AC45 World Series, the Louis Vuitton Cup and the 34th America’s Cup.

The sheer speed and agility of today’s modern racers makes their monitoring, by race judges and camera crews, a challenging task. As a result ACRM is in the process of building a fleet of high-speed catamarans that can provide a platform from which to track the action, be it judging or recording.

As Marc Persoon, Head of Marketing at Mastervolt, explained: “The race support team requires a new standard of high performance, lightweight boats to keep up with the high speeds of the racers. The catamarans being built to do this will be shipped around the world, and need to be lightweight and durable.

“We have been presented with the huge challenge of providing the electrical systems for these vessels…batteries, chargers, converters…that will match their high performance levels.”

As Persoon explained, the 26 support vessels being built are of such high cost to the organisers that they will be retained for the Cup itself, and beyond. With this in mind, Dave Powys of ACRM explained why Mastervolt was selected: “The main reason for the cooperation is the high quality and reliability of the Mastervolt products combined with its worldwide service network.”
