Company Description

Since 1972 Olesinski has been renowned for creating some of the world’ most elegant yachts with impeccable sea-keeping and hull efficiency. Our reputation has grown from our belief in form follows function, designing is a privilege and a good design is one that turns a complex product into a simple solution. Housing three core technical disciplines in one location benefits both client and yard as the product evolves as one master design throughout the development process. Winning the World Superyacht Awards in 2016 and 2013 for our 35m and 40m yachts illustrates our strong position. But the nominations keep arriving. Falcon Lair, the 68m 1987 Feadship where we provided the exterior remodelling and naval architectural support, is the winner of the 2016 ISS superyacht awards. Our talented team has access to unique in-house software that improves turnaround times and hull design. Hulls are created within hours allowing us to refine, reiterate and optimise multiple designs faster. As the 3D design evolves we run in parallel CFD simulations, FE structural analysis and stability assessments to ensure every yacht is viable throughout the development process, providing peace of mind for our clients and the yard. To help our clients our latest innovation is the Olesinski “” system. We can show our client a proposal and evolve the design in real time on screen or remotely on their tablet. Our newly opened office extension provides us with the ability to increase our capacity up to 35 and support our expansion into the superyacht sector. Behind the scenes, we aim to investigate all the options and develop new ideas yet still offer realistic solutions that meet client expectations.&nbsp

“exploring new avenues with an openminded approach we continue to innovate and improve. Our highly talented, international team is capable of naval architecture, exterior design and layouts all in one studio. By utilising the latest processes and software they quickly turn concept ideas into valid proposals enabling us to spend more time designing and optimising.” — Olesinski

Personality

Q: What are the common design mistakes you have come across and how can they be avoided?

We frequently see unrealistic concepts that are sold to clients which ultimately result in compromises to the end product. Concepts need to hold together by involving all key stakeholders which includes naval architects, structural designers and systems engineers. The devil is in the detail and can catch out even the most experienced designers. If the design isn’ fully resolved something will go wrong! Ease of access to services needs to be considered. Remember that crew come in all shapes and sizes. Over simplification of decklines by using arcs and straight lines produce aggressive, bland yachts, while progressive curves help evoke emotive and stylish yachts.

Q: What is the most unusual design feature you’ been asked to incorporate as part of a project?

We have been asked to look at introducing a waterfall over an aft hot tub that would also double as a screen to project films on to during the evenings. Although possible the resolution would not have been acceptable and instead we created an atrium with the best night cinema you could ask for— view of the stars.

Q: Of the many international design studios, which one would/do you aspire to and why?

Norman Foster’ work, whether you admire his bravery, find his work absurd or like his eccentric designs, is guaranteed to provide protracted and emotive conversations with other designers. His creations are always noticed and turn heads. Some believe his ridiculous designs have stepped over the line of rational, practical solutions – but I see them as being far more exciting than the other mainstream ‘’ solutions. Whether it is the Gherkin in London or his take on the superyacht world with Ocean Emerald, his style is always different, unique and inventive.
