Company Description
Founded in 1986 by Andre Hoek, Hoek Design is one of the world’ leading offices for yacht design, naval architecture and engineering. Driven by a strong passion for sailing and a keen eye for detail, Hoek Design yachts combine style with performance. We are perfectionists, with attention to detail being vital to the integrity and success of our designs and our interiors create a sensational feeling of space and comfort. Performance through research is fundamental and Hoek Design yachts reflect the very latest in technology, are optimised extensively and perform superbly.
We have developed and built more than 100 ocean-going yachts that typically combine timeless elegant lines above water with the very latest technologies below. As pioneers in our field, we have set standards which others have followed. Our software is continuously updated to enable us to focus on optimising performance to the highest degree, along with investing in our team to ensure they stay ahead of the game.
Each project begins with the vision of the client. We guide them through the creative process to realise their dream yacht— and technically— the first draft sketch to delivery, whether it is a pretty day sailor for the lakes, a world cruising superyacht or a grand prix J-Class.

Personality
Q : How were you introduced to the world of superyacht design?
Our early analytical work, optimising Dutch leeboard sailing yachts, caught the attention of big yacht owners, and we were asked if we could design classically styled yachts in the same way; optimised for performance but ocean-going. One of the first yachts we designed was the 64’ Truly Classic. With the elegant lines of a J-Class and the in-water configuration of a modern sailing yacht, Truly Classic was extremely successful on the racecourse and turned out to be a very good cruising yacht—the perfect combination. She is still one of our favourite yachts.
Q : Where does the inspiration for new projects come from?
Previous projects are very often the starting point for our visionary clients, who then come to us with their own ideas and inspire us to create extraordinary yachts for them. Sailing on these yachts, whether it’s in the Caribbean or Antarctica, gives us so much insight as to how they are used, allowing us to continue improving our designs all the time. We are very drawn to the gorgeous lines of the iconic big class yachts, such as Lulworth, Brittania and the J’s.
Q : If there were an award for the best design of all time, which one would you choose?
An award for the best design of all time is very difficult to determine, but the Porsche 911 is definitely at the top of the list. The 911 can trace its roots back to sketches drawn by Ferdinand Porsche in 1959 and it has really stood the test of time. In our opinion, it is a real icon of timeless design.
