What is one of your most interesting projects/career highlights to date?
Building Wealth-X, the world’s leading ultra high net worth (UHNW) intelligence provider, from an idea to being a successful multinational organization with over 200 staff and over 200 clients and 12 offices around the globe in less than three years.
What is your involvement with the superyacht industry and why do you feel it is important?
We serve as advisors to the superyacht industry. As the industry goes through transformation and disruptive periods such as the financial crisis of 2007, we advise yards and other members of the superyacht ecosystem on how to overcome issues such as excess capacity and structural challenges.
Our role is to advise our clients in the superyacht industry to their commercial benefit. If these clients are marinas, existing or potential, we can provide them with intelligence on where UHNW individuals are likely to spend their time in the future.
Or we can advise the yards themselves on where they should invest, and what is the right pricing strategy and product mix that will make the most sense for them based on what’s happening within the buying community. We offer deep insights into existing and future buyers of superyachts around the world; this is how we provide value for our clients in the superyacht community.
It’s always critical to bring industry leaders together to address serious issues related to the future of the sector. Whether that issue is excess capacity, legislation, advocacy or lobbying, it is great to have the right people in the same room who are able to address and impact these issues to benefit the entire sector.
What are some interesting and exciting changes you are seeing in your field at the moment?
Broadly speaking, one of the most interesting trends we see is the overlap and collaboration between luxury brands – for example fashion houses and shipyards or automobile companies and shipyards – as they aim to attract certain types of customers. Working collaboratively, these brands come up with interesting and innovative product offerings to engage the marketplace and increase their commercial success. We are seeing a lot of collaboration between luxury brands, and Wealth-X serves as one of the hubs for connecting these brands together.
