On Friday 2 March, 96m Devonport-built M/Y VAVAII (known as Project 55 before launch) sailed out of the Babcock facilities in Plymouth for her maiden voyage. The vessel is the largest private motoryacht even constructed in Britain, and is launched compliant with the Cayman Islands Passenger Yacht Code.

VAVAII is currently crossing the Atlantic on her way to St Maarten to soak up the tail end of the Caribbean season with an inaugural owner trip. She will then return to the Mediterranean for the summer, when she will become available for charter.

The superyacht has a Remi Tessier-designed interior, with exterior styling by Redman Whitely Dixon, and naval architecture by Devonport.

Speaking to SuperyachtNews.com from mid-Atlantic in four-metre seas, Captain O’Shannassy said he was thrilled to have her out on the water:

"VAVAII is a credit to the designer and naval architect. She is very well balanced and powered, with Becker High-lift rudders, controllable pitch propellers and ample size Brunvoll bow thrusters. She is tackling the Atlantic well and is settling in to the operational mode well, alongside the expected initial learning curve that all new yachts experience."
