In Summer 2011 Newcastle Marine began construction of the 53.95m research vessel,Project ‘Chuggaboom’, one of its most exciting projects to date. Now, at the start of 2012, naval architect Vripack has confirmed that the build is progressing successfully and SuperyachtNews.com can provide readers with a glimpse of what the finished vessel will look like.

Marnix Hoekstra, Sales Director of Vripack, has told SuperyachtNews.com that the marriage of the hull and superstructure is due to commence shortly, and pre-production on piping and interior is about to start.

Director of Design at Vripack, Bart Bouwhuis, referred to the vessel as a “globetrotting family yacht,” and said she is “a true dedication to the original philosophy of our Research Vessel design.”

Bouwhuis said the yacht has a “powerful appearance,” and said Vripack’s naval architects have “captured an excellent sea-going comfort”: “A rigorous hydrodynamic Research program, in combination with our 50 years of in-house knowledge, are the key components in the development of her lines plan.”

He continued, “her robust and masculine appearance is accompanied by a softer and luxurious Andrew Winch interior,” which Bouwhuis said “really provides her family with the best of both worlds.”

Construction on the 53.95m vessel is going smoothly

The yacht comes with a dedicated motorbike store and workshop: “the shop is directly connected to the forward boat deck enabling the bikes to be rolled on a tender with integrated ramp going easy transport of their motorbikes onto the mainland to explore back lands on remote islands,” said Bouwhuis.

“Once back on the yacht,” he continued, “the owner is able to relive the adventure on his full owners deck with extensive panoramic windows and a front facing observation launch. With this new yacht the owner will have the freedom to navigate without any restrictions, and thus explore and admire multiple remote areas of the world, just as he asked the design team to do.”

Hoekstra confirmed that the yacht is not intended to be available for charter, and is “purely for family use.” Bouwhuis confirmed that the spacious yacht has been designed for “a very experienced yachting family with the typical no-nonsense attitude we love.”
