Brokers' top picks for MYS 2014

With the industry's biggest show of the year just a few weeks away, SuperyachtNews.com spoke to a number of leading brokers for their top picks of unmissable yachts to be featured at this year's Monaco Yacht Show.…

With such a wide selection of yachts on display at this year's Monaco Yacht Show, it can be hard to decide which ones to see and what sets them apart. So in order to ensure you make the most of your time on the ground, SuperyachtNews.com has asked a selection of brokers for their expectations of this year's show and their picks of the yachts on display.

Matt Pinckney, sales broker, Burgess
"The Monaco Yacht Show is shaping up to be a very interesting one this year. Burgess have 11 yachts in the show, leading with the 85.6m Cakewalk and almost 20 yachts out in the anchorage. We are coming off a hugely successful last eight months, having completed on the sale of 23 large yachts, and it would be great to see this momentum continue through the show and on into the autumn buying window.

"Whilst there has been an undoubted return of buyers to the market, prices are yet to firm up as a result and there are some fantastic deals to be had, especially in the 40-55m sector of the market. We have a feeling that our sales brokers are going to be busier than ever this year with a very encouraging list of serious buyers attending the show.

"The yacht you absolutely have to see at the show is the magnificent Cakewalk, built by Derektor. At just under 3,000GT, she is optimised for volume and as a result has vast deck areas and a huge variety of different entertaining spaces. With a climate controlled tender garage and beautifully appointed beach club, Cakewalk makes enjoying the ocean all the easier."

Jeremy Comport, broker, Camper & Nicholsons International
"Over the past year, the brokerage market has shown real signs of picking up and activity across the board has increased so we are expecting a busy show, with plenty of genuine enquiries and interest. Many potential buyers who have been in the market for a long time, looking and learning, are eager to make the most out of the market's competitive deals and are now ready take the final step and complete. I think Polar Star is going to be a real stand out yacht at the show. She is a 63.4m Lurssen built motor yacht that offers exceptional space on board for a vessel of this size and great comfort for her guests. She was built to offer potential and capability when cruising both warm and cold waters, and is capable of circumnavigation with guests on board. She also has a vast deck space and and broad range of water toys and tenders, a gym, a central guest elevator, and much more.

Alex Busher, broker, Edmiston

"The sales market has seen a marked increase in activity this year, with Edmiston selling 10 yachts so far. Confidence is clearly returning and with a number of active prospects and clients already confirmed for the show, we are confident the activity we have seen to date will continue. We have a strong line-up of yachts, both on the Edmiston Quay and at anchor this year, which we are confident will deliver strong interest."

Edmiston will feature seven yachts at this year's show, including 49.5m Eleonora, and 44m BVB44m, amongst others.

Dennis Frederiksen, sales broker, Fraser Yachts
“I am very positive about the Monaco Yacht Show and have big hopes. The economy is moving in the right direction. Of course we have some reservations of what’s happening in the Ukraine, and the sanctions of Russia, but nevertheless the show itself will get great interest, especially from North & South America, Eastern Europe and Asia. I see a lot of new inventory - yachts that haven’t been on the market before - which is interesting for us as brokers to see and show to our clients. I'm receiving great interest from clients to come to the show.

Aquarius on display with Fraser Yachts

"Aquarius
and Ulysses are recommended to visit at the show. You really need to come on board Aquarius to experience this yacht - she will be berthed in Monaco during the show. Both on deck and inside, this yacht is very open and spacious and her interior is very light. This yacht is really summed up by her on board beach club. Ulysses has a darker and heavier interior, which often caters well to eastern Europeans. She is a very popular charter yacht and well worth a visit.”

Roman Kovalev, sales and charter broker, Moran Yacht & Ship
"If a buyer is looking for a quality custom-built yacht in the 40m range, Apostrophe is the best option at the Monaco show this year." Chris Callahan, marketing director for the group, added that, "this year we will have Allegria, Apostrophe and Sagamar in the show; all three of which are Hakvoorts and show the level of craftsmanship and detail that can be expected from the brand. Apostrophe was on display as a new build project last year so will be great to feature here again on the sales market".

Peter Hürzeler, managing partner, Ocean Independence
"Athena is absolutely stunning and overwhelming. I think if you are interested in sailing yachts then there is simply nothing like her. Although the market is showing significant signs of growth, she does remain quite a large yacht so we will have to see what the market thinks of her."

Gary Wright, co-founder and chairman, Y.CO
“The Monaco Yacht Show is the most prestigious superyacht event in the world and we are always very excited about it. The MYS is a great place for all the leading yards and brokers to show their new launches, and it’s also a brilliant showcase for the exciting opportunities already on the brokerage market. This is the best way to see new innovations from builders and suppliers from every area of the industry.

Lady Lara on display with Y.CO

"This year’s yachts include Lady Lara, and Equanimity, Solandge, Unfurled, Katrion and Hanuman among many others. While deals are rarely made at the yacht show itself, it’s great to see the efforts made by the organisers to ensure the show is well publicised and these amazing yachts are made accessible to the world’s most influential people, all in just four days! I would highly recommend checking out Lady Lara and Hanuman during your time at the show."
