Furuno released its latest navigation suite, the new NavNet TZtouch Black Box multi function display system, which is elevated to a multi-touch interface, last week at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Nominated for a DAME Award this year, the system will be available in early 2013.
Available on nine-inch and 14.1-inch touchscreens that do not black out when wearing polarised sunglasses, it can also be displayed on iPad and smartphone devices through a wireless interface and NavNet Remote app.
The multi-component system built on an Ethernet network can be linked to up to six displays from radar and AIS to fish finders and IP cameras on board, as well as devices like GPS, autopilot and a range of sensors.
The intuitive touchscreen system includes pinch-to-zoom features among its integrated multi-touch gesture instructions. The NavNet TZtouch utilizes TimeZeroTM technology to flip charts instantly and with virtually no redraw to visualise from 2D to 3D display, helping to plan routes and visualize the surroundings. The system’s ecosounder can be retraced in time to check back on points of interest, and then be traced to the exact position on the map where they are located. The NavNet TZtouch, says Furuno, is the only chart plotter on the market that provides users the ability to choose from official NOAA raster and vector charts, or optional “C-Map by Jeppesen” and “Datacore by Navionics” vector cartography.
During the boatshow, Furuno also announced its full line of NavNet TZtouch multi-function displays support FLIR’s M-Series thermal cameras, which can be controlled from the touchscreen with the majority of traditional joystick controls.
