High-calibre sporting events: the new charter
With an excess inventory of charter yachts and the endless possibilities available to owners, now is the time to seek new charter experiences, and large-scale sporting events are the talk of the industry…
The benefits of charter is a book skimmed by many, but how many owners really understand the vast possibilities offered by chartering their floating assets?
Of great benefit to both existing and potential owners, and a chapter that deserves to be explored for precisely these reasons, is that of the charter of large-scale events, and more precisely, major sporting events. Issue 3 of The Superyacht Owner focuses on those future events which industry experts feel hold the highest promise for a successful future for the superyacht charter market.
"Visiting a new and unusual cruising ground, combined with the attraction of a major sporting event, makes a lot of sense."
Without removing the incredibly popular Cannes Film Festival and Monaco’s Formula One Grand Prix from the equation, these two albeit glamorous events only bring charters to a small stretch of the European south coast, and as the champagne flows alternative opportunities are easily forgotten amidst sounds of flashing cameras and fastest laps. Though obvious choices for event-charters, more and more are we seeing the industry’s desire for something new in the tag-line of the charter broker, “new charter destination!” With an increasing number of yachts on the charter market, and the endless possibilities available to owners, why be obvious? Why do what is expected? It’s time to stand out from the crowd.
Patrick Coote, global marketing director of Fraser Yachts Monaco, told The Superyacht Owner: “Positioning the yacht in an unusual destination to attract charters does give it a unique selling point, but also limits the appeal to the wider market.” But, add in a major event and it’s a different story: “Visiting a new and unusual cruising ground, combined with the attraction of a major sporting event, makes a lot of sense.”
With each of these events attracting existing owners, potential owners, and the eyes of billions of spectators across the globe, now is the time to strengthen the link between these high-calibre events and the superyacht industry.
