ITALY, Milan. Yesterday was the first day of the 2014 Milan furniture show and with it came the worldwide premiere of the Aquariva lamp, the first product to come from Riva’s new Home Experience division, at the Larusmiani Concept Boutique.

“For over 170 years, Riva has been synonymous with design, quality, tradition, but also for having an eye to the future,” says CEO of the Ferretti Group, Ferruccio Rossi. “For us, the Aquariva lamp represents the first step in a vaster project that will see the brand exploring new and interesting territories, such as that of home design. We have chosen to make our debut during an important event of international breadth, the Salone del Mobile, because we believe this is the perfect stage for the presentation of our new adventure.”

Better known for its beautiful range of boats, Riva has created a table lamp inspired by the classic search light used on boats of the 1960s, such as the Aquarama, Tritone and Ariston models. Designed by Mauro Micheli of Officina Italiana Design, Micheli has drawn on his experience having worked on many of the boats within the Riva range to create a lamp that recalls the elegance and style of the brand.

The neck of the lamp is available in mambo or in mahogany, both of which are materials used on Riva boats, and is supported by a base that consists of three overlaid V-shaped pieces of steel. When closed the base looks similar to the bow of the Aquarama or Aquariva motorboats, but when open it begins to take on the form of a propeller.

“We are proud that Riva chose to present its Aquariva lamp at our Larusmiani Concept Boutique,” says president and CEO of Larusmiani, Guglielmo Miani. “Both brands are ambassadors of Italian excellence, and fit in perfectly with the strong bond linking the worlds of fashion and design — they respect tradition and at the same time they look forward to the future of style.”

We hope to bring you more news on Salone del Mobile, which runs till 13th April, and will bring you a special report on the event in SuperyachtDesign Q19.
