UK, London. TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) talks are synonymous with innovative, revolutionary and esteemed speakers. Since its launch in 1984, TED talks - and the newer TEDx series - have seen progressive and forward-thinking minds take to the stage, including Al Gore, the Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Stephen Hawking, Philippe Starck, Richard Branson and Sheryl Sandberg. TED’s mantra ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’ is reflected in the captivating speakers discussing everything from education to music, design to comedy and medicine to economics.
SuperyachtDESIGN Week, held from 23 – 25 June, is proud to have three TED speakers participating in this year’s programme. With their expertise reaching across a broad range of themes, fields and countries, SuperyachtDESIGN Week (SYDW) welcomes some of the brightest minds of our generation.
Laurence Kemball-Cook, CEO & founder of Pavegen systems, is an established face at TED talks around the world, having presented at TEDxRio, TED Berlin, TED California and TED London since Pavegen systems’ launch in 2009. Harvesting kinetic energy from people’s footsteps, these innovative Pavegen tiles look to utilise human movement and harness the power of walking, jumping and running to fuel our planet. With worldwide installations at the Paris marathon, the London 2012 Olympics and Heathrow airport, as well as across the world at festivals, Pavegen System’s technology is going global. Don’t miss Laurence’s speech and try the tiles out for yourself at the unique Pavegen-powered photobooth during the SuperyachtDESIGN Week Wonderland Party!
Holistic designer, creative director of Bang & Olufsen, founder of Johannes Torpe studios, music producer, graphic artist…Johannes Torpe has many different accolades and now adds TED speaker to the list. Torpe, known worldwide for his brand development and innovative concepts, draws on his unusual background growing up in a hippie commune in Denmark during the 1970s. This, according to the TEDxESADE speaker, is the reason behind his freethinking, avant-garde approach to design.
Torpe will be discussing his unique creative outlook on day two of SYDW, bringing his passion for shaking up the status quo and challenging preconceived design ideals, Torpe's session is a must-see at this year’s event!
Furthermore, guests of SYDW procure an exclusive opportunity to see Arturo Vittori, founder and director of design studio Architecture and Vision, speak before his appearance at TEDxCibeles in July. Gain a glimpse into the design mind behind the groundbreaking Warka Water project, an alternative water source for drought-affected areas of our world. Utilising unique technology, Architecture and Vision’s studio projects range from ingenious day-to-day products to future ‘green’ transportation opportunities. Vittori’s keynote session, on day three of SYDW, will look at the concept of sustainable, ecological designs and how we can use this to inform the future of superyachts.
Laurence Kemball-Cook, Johannes Torpe and Arturo Vittori will be presenting keynote sessions at this year’s SYDW. The three-day event is defined by three themes: Smart Engineering, Living Architecture and Planetary Protection.
