Moormeds prevents dangerous hanging cables

Moormeds' shoreside cable covers, which also act as supports, have been introduced to the superyacht market to counteract the dangerous practice of allowing cables to hang freely.…

Moormeds has launched an online store to market its new range of shore power cable and hose covers. The covers, which act as tiding devices for cables, have reportedly received their international patent in autumn 2013 and are now being marketed from the company’s base in Palma de Mallorca.

The target market remains superyachts, says Moormeds’ Carlos Julia, when speaking to SuperyachtNews.com. And a distribution contract is set to be signed imminently for the Balearic Islands before expanding onto the Spanish mainland.

“We found a problem on the market where superyachts had all of their cables hanging on the ropes or around the mooring buoys and there was nothing standard available”, Julia explains. To custom make a cable support would cost around €300 per cable, according to Julia, after obtaining quotes from existing manufacturers. “So we wanted to provide a standardised version of this sort of cover, regardless of mooring length. The main feature of Moormeds is that it’s able to be adapted to any sort of boat, cable diameter or length of mooring line.”

As is the way with superyacht clients, Moormeds is also able to customise the covers to match the colour of the fender covers, as well as embossing a yacht’s name or promoting the branding of the charter or management company. In this way, Julia identifies Moormeds covers as high visibility branding products.
