As befits the largest and last marine leisure trade show of the year, METSTRADE honours the best in new marine product design. The 25th DAME Awards stood as a reminder that innovation can come in many forms. As previously reported, the Spinlock Lume-On stole many of the plaudits for its beautifully simple man overboard solution. The Lume-On consists of two LEDs that will attach to most lifejackets, turning the lifejacket bladder into a clever form of mass illumination.
At the other end of the innovation spectrum, and worthy of its standing as joint DAME winner, is the Electric Stabilising Fin & Interceptor System from Humphree. This dual system stabiliser is the world’s first 24 Volt DC fin stabilizer with 360-degree rotating fins able to nullify anchor walk at rest. While the product is rather small for the superyacht market, the system can be doubled up to account for larger vessels, whilst ensuring that overall draft remains limited, ideal for superyachts wishing to cruise in the Caribbean.
Special mention must also go to the Nautibuoy platform, Ocean Signal’s rescueME MOB1 and Simrad’s Halo pulse compression radar.
Innovative materials have been at the top of the marine agenda for a number of years now. The efficiency demands of the modern superyacht call for lighter, stronger, more cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions. METSTRADE once again highlighted this area of the industry with its continued partnership with material innovation specialist Materia and a section dedicated to the subject.
“Our aim is to serve as a global network organisation that connects architects and boat manufacturers with materials which add value to their projects,” explains Jeroen van Oostveen, CEO of Materia.
The Material Xperience introduced delegates to interesting products such as bio laminate, a material recycled from waste products and that is 100 per cent biodegradable and toxin free, energy efficient and does not pollute water.
