SYD often receives automotive-inspired concepts such as the GT Tender by Dobroserdov Design, Luiz de Basto’s Voyage 55 and the Fusion by Red Design. However, it is less common to come across a boat concept by an automotive-based company such as Jaguar Cars. However, the English luxury car manufacturer has unveiled a sleek 6.1m tender concept to support the international debut of the Jaguar XF Sportbrake, launched this week.

“We recognise that both our existing and future customers enjoy diverse and active lifestyles,” reveals design director at Jaguar, Ian Callum. “With the launch of the new Jaguar XF Sportbrake, we had an opportunity to create a vision of how our design philosophy might be applied to an alternative product, in which speed and beauty are also priorities.”

Working in collaboration with Ivan Erdevicki Naval Architecture & Yacht Design and Seventy Seven Design, the tender has a number of features inspired by a selection of Jaguar models. The gel-coated fibreglass hull is complete with teak decking aft, which is spilt by a carbon fibre fin, inspired by the D-Type Jaguar.

The boat also includes a fuel cap created with Jaguar Cars’ heritage in mind, drawing inspiration from the series 1 XJ, and a polished aluminium propeller. Pop-up mooring cleats are also featured on either side of the boat to ensure that the clean finish is not disrupted when navigating.

The cockpit embraces the sporty character of Jaguar cars and provides space for two people. “The Concept Speedboat looks powerful,” says Callum. “It follows the idea of a traditional speedboats, in so many ways, but with the sleek and fast characteristics that you would expect from a Jaguar car.”

Unlike the 14m concept by Silver Arrows Marine and Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar has no plans to build the boat at this stage but took the opportunity to study a new form. “I hope our design inspires people to think about our products in a much broader sense, especially in lifestyle and enjoyment,” concludes Callum. “I have always had a passion to create such an object and it seemed fitting that we relate this to a lifestyle vehicle such as the Jaguar XF Sportbrake. The two sit together perfectly.”
