Company Description

After graduating from the School of Fine Arts in Venice, his specialisation being sculpture, Cristiano Gatto started studying the relationship between industrial design and contemporary art.&nbspIn 1993 he was hired by famous design studio Nuvolari Lenard where he became project manager and head of the interior design department and, afterwards, the studio’ general manager. Alongside his activities as a designer, Cristiano cultivated his passion for sculpture, with many of his statues in the finest Carrara marble being exhibited in art galleries all over Europe. By the end of 2001 he founded his own company, Cristiano Gatto Design, based in Preganziol, near Treviso, Italy. From that moment, Cristiano Gatto made a name for himself and his reputation grew steadily thanks to his great creativity, knowledge, versatility and straightforward attitude, which allows him to turn each client’ wishes into reality. Cristiano and his team have penned tens of projects, both classic and innovative yachts, production and custom designs for a diverse, international clientele. Among their clients are highly reputed shipyards, amongst which are Heesen Yachts, Benetti, Icon Yachts, Astondoa, Canados, Cantieri di Pisa. Concurrently, Cristiano Gatto Design Team developed one-of-a-kind projects working independently with clients on private commissions all over the world. For Dutch yard Heesen Yachts Cristiano Gatto designed the interior of the 50m custom yacht Crazy Me and two more custom projects, 45m Amore Mio and 50m Loyalty, while two new yachts with interiors or decoration by CGDT are currently under construction at the yard’ facility in Oss. In 2013 the 50m expedition vessel I-Nova, entirely designed by Cristiano Gatto, won the Showboat Design Award. The Cristiano Gatto Design team is composed of 12 people.

“ design is at the forefront of what I do, but by virtue of my experience as a sculptor I approach every project as a sculpture, with the overall design in mind but refining it to the smallest detail ... I love the aesthetics of function and the function of aesthetics. All my projects reflect my vision.”

Personality

Q: What are the common&nbspdesign mistakes you have&nbspcome across and how can&nbspthey be avoided?

One of the main design mistakes is the overlap of different actors and different design phases. This generates a lot of issues and problems in most scenarios, the only solution being precise organisation and carefully coordinating the planning before the start of the project.

Q: What is the most unusual&nbspdesign feature you’ been&nbspasked to incorporate as part&nbspof a project?

An outdoor tennis court

Q: Of the many international&nbspdesign studios, which one&nbspwould/do you aspire to and&nbspwhy?

In this market I dream to work with, above many others, Terence Disdale and Espen Ø.
