Last week saw over 450 guests attend SuperyachtDESIGN Week over the course of the three-day event. From leaders in design and naval architecture to builders and suppliers, Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour was alive with debate, engaging discussion and networking opportunities.

“We work in a marketplace that relies on so few people,” said chairman and editor-in-chief of The Superyacht Group, Martin Redmayne in an interview at the close of day three. “There is a hundred thousand people out there who can afford a boat but they don’t because they are not inspired or intrigued or excited. If we can inspire them to invest and develop new technologies and ideas, they end up with something that excites them and they will spend the money to be excited, as it is all about experience.”

This year saw an impressive list of speakers including Andrew Bailey, Patrik Schumacher, Mr M A Zaman, Hugo Nightingale, Rob Henderson, Martin Francis, Terry Disdale, Rob Doyle, Chris van Hooren, Tanno Weeda, Greg Marshall, John Leonida, James O'Callaghan, Ken Hickling and Kai Dittmar delivering insightful and challenging presentations and discussions.

“To spend an hour or two listening to people like [Andrew Bailey from] McLaren will hopefully trigger some new thinking and ideas, which is part of our objective,” said Redmayne.

Along with learning new and exciting developments in sister industries such as the automotive and aeronautical, delegates were given a number of opportunities to network and share experiences. Evenings offered additional opportunities to catch up with peers with ideaworks hosting a VIP drinks reception on the first evening at its London Experience Centre, followed by the SuperyachtDESIGN Week Party on the second night. The latter took place on the ground floor of the central dome at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, with entertainment provided by female opera group Passionata.

“What can I say about SuperyachtDESIGN Week, I was dubious and sceptical having never been before, but what a great event and very useful for us business wise, but also just great bumping into old friends and catching up,” said Matt Trustam of Matthew Trustam Design after the event.

We would like to thank our sponsors for this event: Gold Level: Awlgrip, Blohm+Voss; Silver: Clyde & Co, Jonathan Fawcett and Kevin Glancy; and Bronze: AIM Yacht Interiors, Decored, Heirlooms, MyYachtMyMusic and OceanLED. We would also like to thank Extex as our SupetyachtDESIGN Week Party sponsor, MyYachtMyMusic for their unique sound and Crystal Caviar for their beautiful crystal straws.
