It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of industry veteran and chief engineer Lutz Pouplier.

Lutz was involved in the superyacht industry for the last 30 years. He began work as a chief engineer on superyachts in the 1980s, starting his life in the superyacht engine room on board Abeking and Rasmussen’s 36.5m S/Y Jagare.

For the following 11 years, Lutz worked for the owner of Hitachi’s 47.2m S/Y Mikado and Lürssen’s 92.9m S/Y Eos.

His last position, for the last few years, was lead technical supervisor on Lürssen’s 180m M/Y Azzam.

Lutz suffered from a stroke while working in Bremen and passed away 10 days later. Many of his ex-crewmembers from S/Y Eos came from far away to the funeral, which was held on 6th November in Germany, where his family lived.

Even though he was German, Lutz lost his heart to southern Africa when visiting there the first time in the '90s, and explored the southern African countries extensively together with his girl friend of 23 years, Ulrike, who he leaves behind.

Lutz was very fit, was an enthusiastic cyclist and classic car lover and collector. He will be remembered and missed as the incredible friendly, helpful and always smiling person he was.
