US, Fort Lauderdale. The winners of the Design & Leadership Awards 2012 were announced at the 22nd International Superyacht Society (ISS) Design Awards Gala on 24 October. The awards, based completely on peer review recognises the very best of naval architecture, interior design, engineering and construction in the superyacht industry. The nominees were submitted to ISS by the industry’s leading builders, designers and stewards and an impartial group of judges chooses the winners in each category: power (24m to 40m, 40m to 65m and 65m+), sail (24m to 40m and 40m+), interior design and best refit.

Philippe Briand was extremely successful, with two of his projects, Vertigo and Galileo G, picking up awards. "I am delighted that Vertigo has won so many awards this year and now and now the Best Sail 40m+ at the ISS Design and Leadership Awards," Briand tells us. "I would like to thank the members of the jury for rewarding this design which we started working on in 2004 and which was beautifully completed by a very skilled shipyard, Alloy Yachts. Of course, all of my gratitude goes to the owner without whom nothing would have happened. The project was a very positive experience and I hope it will be an incentive for the build of many new large sailing yachts." Sinot Yacht Design’s Mushashi won both Best Power 65m+ and Best Interior. "Receiving the news of winning the award for best interior was a great honor for me," says Sander Sinot "My team and I are humbled to be chosen amongst a group of talented designers also nominated in the same category. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the owner for our close cooperation during the design process and Feadship who proved once again their superior quality."
