The Dutch superyacht market speaks out

SuperyachtNews.com is pleased to present a series of interviews with leading Dutch industry executives discussing the reasons behind their success, the future for the eurozone and the health of the industry as a whole. The full article appears in issue 136 of 'The Superyacht Report'.…

The global economic crisis shows no signs of abating and its intrinsic effect on the fortunes of the world’s superyacht markets are visible for the entire industry to see.

The varying success of various nations has been based partly on their exposure to external economic pressures, but equally on how the industry is managed, supported and regulated in any given jurisdiction.

The Superyacht Group travelled to the Netherlands in June 2012 as part of the HISWA Yacht Valley Press Tour, at a particularly volatile time in the history of the eurozone, and met with a host of executives from a broad spectrum of Dutch superyacht builders, suppliers and service providers. Considering the apparent robustness of the Dutch industry, which continues to lead the way alongside its neighbour Germany in terms of both quality and profitability, we asked the captains of Dutch industry, who spearhead the companies that have produced its success what they attribute the success of the Dutch market to. We also quizzed them on their predictions for the future of the European market and the industry more generally.

Dutch yachtbuilding has remained surprisingly resilient in the face of a downturn.

Their responses appeared as part of a comprehensive review of the HISWA tour, recently published in a special 20th anniversary edition of The Superyacht Report.

A number of the interviews were also captured on film and are now available on SuperyachtNews.com.
