Superyacht-specific area ready in March 2015
Tahiti's capital city, Papeete will have a dedicated marina space for superyachts, including a 200m dock, opening in March 2015.…
The marina development that is currently underway in Papeete, Tahiti, which will bolster the country’s superyacht provision, is set to be completed by March 2015.
The Port Authority of Papeete has confirmed that a specific area of the marina will be dedicated to superyacht berthing, and this newly completed area will comprise a 200m dock, a crew area.
The development has been undertaken in response to an upturn in superyacht traffic in recent times, and while nearby Marina Taina can accommodate 20 yachts up to 60m, this new marina space will be able to accommodate any overflow, or yachts exceeding 60m.
The marina is part of a wider urbanisation development project led by the Port Authority to renovate Papeete’s waterfront.
Commenting on the increasing number of superyachts visiting Tahiti’s shores, Paul Sloan, who is CEO of Tahiti Tourisme said, “2014 definitely brought the islands of Tahiti to light as an important superyacht destination. Not only thanks to the efforts made locally to improve the quality of conditions to welcome superyachts, their guests and crew, but also thanks to the continuing growing general interest in the industry for an emerging destination like ours.”
