THE NETHERLANDS, Rotterdam. In 2014 SuperyachtDesign.com reported on the success and progress of Bolidt in 2013/2014. The latter half of 2014 and first half of 2015 have seen the success continue. We received a progress update from Jacco van Overbeek, director of the maritime division at Bolidt.

“Over the past 18 months Bolidt has extended its already impressive reference list with some high profile new build and refit projects taking place at a number of different yards,” begins Overbeek. “One of the most notable superyacht deliveries of 2015 so far,” and featuring Bolideck Future Teak, “is the Espen Oeino designed, 63m Irimari.”

Approximately 642msq of environmentally-friendly Future Teak has been used on Irimari’s exterior decking including 105 steps and on gratings. “Various pigments were used in the Future Teak compound to give the vessel a striking and ‘cool’ visual appearance,” explains Overbeek.

The fitting out of the Irimari concludes a successful period for Bolidt, during which it has been involved with a number of large new build and refit projects. The delivery of Graceful from Blohm + Voss was one of the highlights of 2014, not only for the prestigious nature of the vessel but also for the complexity of the project, which saw a mix of new construction and refitting — as the German yard was charged with completing a partially finished hull structure.

“Our recent track record in the superyacht refit sector speaks volumes,” says Overbeek. “We are particularly pleased that the environmentally sustainable, but still elegant-looking Future Teak has become a product of choice for many superyachts.”

Future Teak is a durable, lightweight and cost effective alternative to teak, with the added advantage of reduced installation time. It is safe in both wet and dry conditions and its environmentally-friendly credentials are becoming increasingly persuasive as sustainability becomes a central concern for many in the yachting industry.

The list of Bolideck products continues to grow as specifications for yachts become ever more complex. The most notable and frequently requested is Bolideck Select Soft and Bolideck Select Hard, which are lightweight and easy to clean but have different applications. Bolideck Select Soft has been developed for its excellent sound attenuation and it has been increasingly specified for surfaces on board superyachts where there are specific sound requirements, such as areas above cabins. By contrast, Bolideck Select Hard is often selected for areas where UV resistance is a high priority, as well the requirement for a more luxurious finish.

Also increasingly popular as a niche product is Bolidt Helideck, which has been used for the helicopter landing platforms on many new and upgraded superyachts over the past few years. This specialised deck finishing system has been developed to have extreme anti-skid properties, to allow helicopters to land and take off safely in rain, while it is also highly resistant to oil and other chemicals.

We look forward to seeing the latest announcements from the Dutch company at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show, where Irimari will be on display providing a good opportunity to see Future Teak in the flesh.
