Wild Group is this week undertaking its largest yacht hull wrapping to date at Solent Refit in Southampton Water. The 57m Turkish-built three-masted schooner Montigne, having completed a sixteen month charter for the Scotch whiskey brand Johnnie Walker, is undergoing a rapid 6-week refresh and refit in order to make the crossing to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. In order to save both time and money, her owners opted to have the original cream white hull colour-matched and replicated in a vinyl wrap by Wild Group.

“Wild Group just finished wrapping a brand new 28m Sunseeker here a few weeks ago,” says Phil Millard, yard manager at Solent Refit. “She came in white and left here with a titanium and carbon fibre finish, which looked really cool. That was the first boat to have a full wrap.”

Wild Group are based in Hamble, which has helped make the relationship with Hythe Marine Park-based Solent Refit a successful one.

“Sunseeker are adding Wild Group’s wrapping service as an extra, so we hope to see more of these jobs coming in here,” Millard says. “For Montigne, we’ll get this wrap completed in a week.”

Along with the hull wrap, Montigne is undergoing superstructure painting, deck work and engineering repairs including a new bespoke stainless steel exhaust system for the engines and generators, interior repairs and refinishing and a RINA 5 year survey.

Under the newly installed £1 million roof and lighting upgrade of the main shed lies another Turkish build, the 39m Moonmaiden II, which is undergoing extensive upgrades including new pipework, bilge and fire systems for her new owner.

And out on Solent Refit’s deepwater pontoon lies 58m Lady K II, a classic 1961 motor yacht which will be lifted on the 1500 ton lift. The major refit will restore the yacht, including a specialist engine rebuild on her original two-stroke air start Sulzer-Busch diesels and a complete interior upgrade.

Under director Allan Foot, Solent Refit has been negotiating a transfer of the site lease to the company’s name from government holding, and hope to be able to confirm the deal in the coming weeks.

Solent Refit will soon announce a 25 year lease on the entire site
