Paul Mickelsen retires from InteliSea

Founder and CEO retires from Alarm, Monitoring and Control (AMC) system developer InteliSea...…

Paul Mickelsen, CEO and founder of InteliSea LLC, developer of Alarm, Monitoring and Control (AMC) systems, has announced his retirement from the company and is now looking for a company to purchase the brand.

Speaking to SuperyachtNews.com Mickelsen disclosed that while these changes occur customers will be unaffected by the restructure of the company: “We’re talking to three firms right now [who are interested in acquiring all or a part of InteliSea]. I can’t disclose who those firms are. We have also made arrangements with three different firms to be service providers for InteliSea so they will be able to support our customers and install new InteliSea installations if they wish.

“That could change if someone swoops in and says they want to buy the intellectual property or buy the company.”

InteliSea was started in 2006. In 2007 they began to install their AMC system for Westport Shipyard on their 112’, 130’, and 164’ lines. Other builders followed and InteliSea is now installed on over 60 superyachts.

Of course, shortly after, the GFC hit and Mickelsen said that the last few years have been increasing difficult for the company and he has become more involved in running the business than he originally intended. “When I started InteliSea it wasn’t meant to be a full-time job for me, I had already retired once and basically I was going to be kind of a hands off owner of the company,” Mickelsen said. “But, when the downturn came in our industry, and I’m sure InteliSea is not the only company to experience it, I pretty much spent full-time working on it. We did okay, but it was a lot of work and I just didn’t want to do that much work.”

InteliSea have already informed their customers of the current restructuring and Mickelsen has confirmed that most employees have already been dismissed from the company, with a skeleton staff assisting in final operations. Arrangements have also been made for three different firms to be dealers and service providers for existing customers and new installations for the foreseeable future. Mickelsen stated:

“I’m pretty confident our brand will continue. We have five projects in the works and our staff will complete these five projects. I’ve personally spoken to all of the builders involved and there should be no disruption whatsoever.

“The important thing was to carry on so customers could continue and be assured that they would get support, which we’ve done.”

Mickelsen will personally continue product development for InteliSea and is available as a consultant.
