One brand, One port

Marina Port Vell has been absorbed into the greater OneOcean Barcelona brand and has been renamed OneOcean Port Vell. The Salamanca Group is aiming to put Barcelona on the map as a serious wintering option.…

Barcelona based subsidiaries of the Salamanca Group, OneOcean Ventures and Marina Port Vell, have aligned their brands under one banner. Marina Port Vell has been renamed OneOcean Port Vell to incorporate its services into the greater OneOcean Barcelona Brand. SuperyachtNews.com spoke exclusively to Anella Alcott, commercial director at OneOcean Port Vell about the motivation for the realignment.

The 2014 edition of the Monaco Yacht Show saw the Salamanca Group officially launch OneOcean Ventures and the OneOcean Club at Marina Port Vell, and Alcott says the brand’s momentum is yet to slow. “We are offering wellness, wintering and a number of advisory and management services, from yacht acquisitions to cyber security,” she explained.

In addition to customer care services the OneOcean brand boasts a 148-berth port that includes alongside berthing for superyachts up to 190 metres, that is, any superyacht in the world. “We are a one stop shop,” continues Alcott, “Barcelona is putting itself on the map in terms of the yachting community, we have MB’92 on our doorstep - one of the best refit yards in the world.”

OneOcean Port Vell

OneOcean Port Vell is however, yet to market itself as a summer destination. “It’s the ideal place to spend your winter; it has the ideal climate, a top notch refit yard five minutes away and so much for the crew to do,” she said.

Crew retention is of paramount importance for both superyacht captains and owners. Choosing a vibrant metropolis with excellent international transport links as a wintering destination certainly goes some way to boosting crew morale. “However, this summer we have had a lot more yachts coming in with their owners on way to the [Balearic] islands,” Alcott added.

Discussing what the future holds for OneOcean she said, “The challenge for us is changing perceptions. France has been the epicentre of the yachting world, but times are changing- there are new facilities popping up everywhere and they are really top notch.”

If variety is the spice of life maybe it is high time that genuine challengers to the Riviera stepped forward. As a luxury destination, Barcelona is certainly heading in the right direction and OneOcean appears to have no plans to relax the pace of its development. “We are certainly looking to expand within the city,” confirmed Alcott.

OneOcean Port Vell

“The area that we [OneOcean Port Vell] are in used to be a commercial port. This area is changing more and more; we have the marina, private members club, wellness centre, superyacht business hub, MB’92 and W Hotel around the corner and Nikki Beach has recently announced that it will be opening in this area,” she concluded. “This is the quickly becoming the place to be in Barcelona.”
