SuperyachtNews.com met with Australian-based Muir Winches at the Monaco Yacht Show this year. The Muir team reported that they are going from strength the strength, with the appointment of Robert Eekman has been appointed as European Sales Executive for the company.

Based in Stuttgart, Germany, Eekman will have a particular focus on the North Germany and Eastern European markets. A naval architect by trade, Eekman has worked with many of the industry's leading yards including Lurssen and Feadship. He joins the Muir UK Director Simon Pettit, who is also instrumental in driving the company's growth in the northern hemisphere.

2013 has been a strong year for MUIR, with the company named 2013 Superyacht Industry Business of the Year (Manufacturer) at the 2013 Club Marine Australian Marine Export & Superyacht Industry Awards in April. Company founder John Muir was also honoured at the awards, being presented with the 2013 Club Marine Australian Marine Export and Superyacht Industry Champion' award and inducted into the Australian Marine Export and Superyacht Industry Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements and contribution to the Australian marine industry.

The Muir team remain focused on growth and expanding their product range to even better serve the superyacht industry.
New developments in 2013 include the development of Muir’s small to medium sized megayacht range to include more 316 stainless steel components, allowing Muir to become much more competitive in the market for semi-production and production yachts between 25m and 50m.

Matthew Johnson

Matthew Johnson, Managing Director of Muir is proud of the way that the company is always growing and developing, despite the challenges faced by all Australian exporters: "There has been some relief from the strong Australian dollar in recent months, and we continue to drive the entire product range forwards," he said. As part of their long-term strategy, and to counteract high labour and material costs in Australia, Muir is always investigating options for more affordable production, including piece work in China. "We are always working closely with our customers to help meet their demands with a cost-effective solution," concluded Johnson.

Muir will be exhibiting at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (
Yachting Tent 709-713)  and METS (Stand 11.718)
