THE NETHERLANDS, Amsterdam. Dutch design studio Van Geest Design (VGD) has unveiled a furniture range consisting of pieces originally created to aid the illustration of exterior design concepts. After receiving positive feedback from clients for the style of these outdoor pieces, the studio took the decision to create three collections.

“It became clear that the next natural step was to develop these furniture pieces further,” explains Tracey Canavaggio at VGD. “These designs follow our philosophy: uncluttered and user-friendly. Following through not only the aesthetics but also the superyacht quality construction and manufacturing.”

The Flow series focuses on sculpted flowing curves and was inspired by human shapes to give a light and suspended feeling

Drawing on Canavaggio’s furniture design and manufacturing experience along with business partner Pieter van Geest’s knowledge of composite construction and industrial design, the new range reflects the studio’s desire to create furniture that is simple to maintain and maneuver by crew.

The Facet series adapts to modern surroundings. It’s dominant strong lines are contrasted with the soft cushions.

The minimalistic yet retro aesthetic of the range comprises of the Flow and Facet series, and the Miscellaneous collection. The majority of the furniture will be constructed using similar lightweight materials frequently used in boat building. Large furniture pieces such as lounge sofas and sunbeds can be easily customised to the deck camber.

The Miscellaneous collection has been created to complement any outdoor space, from tables to pebble shaped day beds or poufs.

“All furniture units are made from the highest quality marine graded materials,” says van Geest. “Composite parts are moulded and treated with a polyurethane high gloss topcoat for carbon fibre parts and a polyester based high gloss colour coating topcoat for the glass fibre.”
