A loose conglomeration of South American Industry stakeholders are collaborating to accommodate the increasing number of owners who are exploring everything the continent has to offer.
A number of this, as yet unnamed, association were attending FLIBS and SuperyachtNews.com spoke with Adam Tarleton of Brazil Yacht Services and Tomas Miranda of South America Super Yacht Supports.
Miranda, who was in town to promote his latest venture 'Captains of Patagonia', explained that the necessary, no-frills infrastructure is beginning to appear to the south of the continent.
In the popular Puerto Williams for example, docking has recently been constructed, making it the most southerly base a superyacht can moor at on earth.
The final paperwork is also being formulated for the construction of a government-backed marina that will offer facilities to the growing cruise ship market visiting the area. Although this is unlikely to be completed until 2019 or beyond, the benefits to visiting superyachts are obvious.
Miranda said that Puerto Williams' title is unlikely to remain for long. Apparently, permission has been given to build a pontoon at Cape Horn itself, meaning vessels will have dockage at the continent's furthest point.
Further north, Tarleton is heavily involved with Brazilian preparations for superyachts and their owners keen to join the party at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Pier Maua is ordinarily a busy commercial port but the city's mayor has awarded the superyacht sector a concession within the port for berthing.
It appears the move has been so well received that it has now been announced the concession is going to be extended indefinitely. Tarleton explained that work is now underway to make the area 'superyacht-friendly'.
