Camper & Nicholsons broadens its horizons

Camper & Nicholsons' strategic expansion targets new markets.…

In August 2014, a new era unfolded for Camper & Nicholsons when Colosseum Services SA of Geneva, now known as 1782 Group, announced that it had acquired the brand.

Instantaneously stating the group’s intentions to transform the company into a more multi-faceted service provider, Camper & Nicholsons acquired the formerly unconnected Camper & Nicholsons Designs, a complementary addition to the new portfolio.

May 2015 saw Fincantieri S.p.A. acquire a minority stake via a capital increase in Camper & Nicholsons, with the agreement including the possibility to subsequently increase its share capital. Two Fincantieri builds, 134m M/Y Serene and 140m M/Y Ocean Victory, were supervised and brokered by Camper & Nicholsons, proving two things: that the collaboration has the potential to be a success and that both companies are consolidating a presence in the larger yacht segment.

This summer also saw the creation of new-generation charter system ‘Yachster’. Standing aboard Silver Wind at the Monaco Yacht Show, founder Anthony Brisacq described it as “meeting new luxury standards by real-time, instantaneous yacht charter booking - as easy as booking a flight”.

With a booking procedure of less than two hours, inclusive of crew, catering, limousine, the hotline and a boarding assistant, the Yachtster app and website is focused on the 10 to 40m sector and is set to make charter both simple and secure.

The Camper & Nicholsons team also announced four new service offerings to tap into new markets in line with its strategic expansion plan.

Firstly, a new refit/repair service will be offered utilising the aforementioned expertise, facilities, engineering and project management knowledge of Fincantieri. With locations in Trieste and Genoa, there is enough capacity to handle four yachts at a time.

Secondly, in a bid to open the door to more sales, and simplify an all too complex buying procedure, Camper & Nicholsons Financial Services will offer financing solutions to those wishing to purchase a yacht using the mortgaging route.

Thirdly, Camper & Nicholsons Insurance Solutions will provide existing and external clients with a marine insurance service, which when tied together with the Camper & Nicholsons Yacht Management Division, will offer a complete and competitive option for bespoke requirements.

Lastly, launching in the summer of 2016 will be Camper & Nicholsons Property. Aiming to mirror the luxury services of a charter on-shore, an all-inclusive portfolio of the finest villas worldwide will be available, beginning with the South of France.

This related diversification not only adds strength to the traditional business model and values, but unveils new revenue streams that lead to a more rounded portfolio of service offerings.
