In the first quarter of 2012, Burgess has hired six new team members in three offices across the globe, adding to its existing workforce of 130 after it reported a record year in 2011.

The US superyachting market has seen some positive growth in recent months, with many reporting that the Miami and Palm Beach shows saw signs of green shoots from US customers. In anticipation for a busy year in the US on both east and west coasts, Matt Emerson has been instated as Director for the Americas. Having previously worked as President of Camper & Nicholsons USA, Emerson will be based in Manhattan, New York, and will be focusing on building Burgess’ presence in US sales, charter and management in the Americas, both North and South.

Emerson will be joined in the New York office by Andy McNab as Yacht Manager. McNab’s superyacht experience includes extensive yacht building and management, including seven years as Director of MCM’s yacht management in Newport, RI.

Burgess’s charter management team has grown by four to support the company’s growing charter fleet. Sonia Palfrey joins as charter manager in Monaco from Camper & Nicholsons, where she directed the charter management team for nine years. Palfrey’s 30-year career in superyachting includes roles at Bartram & Brackenhoff, running her own management business and joint ownership of Newport, RI-based charter management agency VEB Nicholson & Sons.
