This month Bellingham Marine celebrated 25 years in New Zealand and the South Pacific. Bellingham was founded in 1985 and has now grown into one of the most successful marina construction companies in the region. A quarter of a century and 9000 berths later Bellingham believe that they have remained faithful to their founding principles of a commitment to effective technology and quality construction.
Everett Babbitt, President of Bellingham Marine, commented, “Our presence in New Zealand was born out of a desire to provide developers and marina owners in New Zealand with the technology and know-how needed to design and construct the world’s best marinas.” Bellingham Marine’s Unifloat product proved hugely successful and has dominated the market in New Zealand.
Patriotism seems to be central to the company’s ethos and they are proud that over the course of its existence Bellingham Marine New Zealand (BMNZ) has contributed in excess of $35 million to the New Zealand economy through their trade agreements with local companies and in salaries. They also estimate that Bellingham has brought in $12 million in export dollars in the past 10 years. “Although we are part of an international team, not a dime of our profits leave New Zealand,” said Peter Anderson, General Manager of Bellingham Marine New Zealand. “For all business purposes we are a local company. We just have the unique benefit of having a business partner that operates on a global level with a knowledge base and years of experience that are unmatched.”
BMNZ's projects include Bayswater Marina Picton, Waikawa, Napier Sailing Club and Denarau in Fiji. Everyone at Bellingham Marine New Zealand is no doubt looking forward to another 25 years in the industry.
