AYSS names Geoff Majer 2013/2014 chairman

The Association of Yacht Support Services (AYSS) has appointed Geoff Majer, of Major Yacht Services, its 2013/2014 chairman, taking over from Mark Drewelow.
Majer is the director of Major Yacht Services in Sydeney, Australia, for the past 16 years. His maritime background also includes time in the navy, between 1982 and 1989, following which he was positioned as a yacht engineer from 1990 to 1997. Majer has been a member of AYSS since 1997, and has been sitting on its council for the last few years.
Speaking exclusively to SuperyachtNews.com, Majer elaborated on his appointment, explaining that he looked forward to his role in the context of an evolving superyacht industry. “As the first chairperson from the Southern Hemisphere, I hope to bring an additional dimension to the historically Northern-Hemisphere dominated industry,” explained Majer. “Over recent years the AYSS has experienced significant growth in the ‘non-traditional’ areas of the yachting industry, and I believe this growth is due to greater numbers of larger yachts that can now easily navigate and traverse further afield from the traditional cruising grounds.
“As we all know, the superyacht industry is an exciting industry with minimal boundaries. That is what I enjoy about being part of the industry. The AYSS are the pioneers within the superyacht industry. The AYSS has grown and, in my opinion, is now the leading association, setting high standards and ethics.”
