In a gala event on 15 November attended by representatives of the Italian yachting industry, Amico & Co, the Genoa-based shipyard offering refit, repair and maintenance services for superyachts between 30m to 140m, inaugurated its new 102m covered dry dock with the traditional blessing and bottle of champagne. Completed in 17 months at a cost of six million euro, the dry dock is part of an ongoing investment in the company’s infrastructure that has totalled 13 million euro in the last 4.5 years.
“This latest investment is significant not just for the shipyard and the yachting industry in Liguria: it also represents a major boost to the local economy in general,” said Alberto Amico, CEO of Amico & Co. “It has been calculated that each refit brings to Liguria a total business turnover equivalent to eight times the value of the refit or repair itself.”
In addition to taking on 20 new personnel between its Genoa and Loano facilities in the last three years, Amico & Co works with five industry partners for a total of 140 employees, another 35 specialist companies in Genoa and 650 regional suppliers. Since September, the shipyard has won 17 refit commissions for vessels over 50m, half of which have already utilised—or will use—the dry dock facility.
