Following more than a year and a half of construction, Albany Marina in the Bahamas is readying itself to receive its first visiting vessels in October.

The first phase of construction of the 71-slip marina, which included dredging a 46 metre-wide channel and the creation of a 15-acre deepwater basin, was completed in August. To date, 25 of the marina's largest finger piers, ranging from 15 to 73 metres in length, have been installed and crews are completing final work on the utility and fuel systems.

The marina has been designed to cater for superyachts up to 73 metres and will provide concierge services, crew facilities and access for provisioning and fueling. Six activities platforms are placed in the southwest and north of the marina, providing a space for slip users for everything from staging areas for provisioning their vessels from, to spaced for hosting friendly gatherings.

The main walks of the marina, installed by Bellingham Marine, are over three metres wide, docks feature freeboards of 762 millimetres and gangways are rated for use by golf carts and other service vehicles. A single gangway rated for use by larger vehicles has been installed to give access to the central fuel dock and dock master's office.
