After graduating with a Masters Degree in Ship Science from Southampton University in 2005, Alex joined BMT Nigel Gee as a Graduate Naval Architect.
Since then Alex has specialised in the design of large yachts, and played a key role in the recent creation of Lateral Naval Architects, as part of the management team. Alex now leads a team of naval architects developing many new, novel, and exciting yacht designs from concept through to build.
In this role, Alex is responsible for team, project and client management and is experienced in working closely with shipyards, designers, client representatives and other parties to achieve a fantastic end product.
Alex also sits on several technical working groups focusing on new regulation and standards impacting the superyacht industry. He aims to continually develop and progress his knowledge and through his career, he has gained specific expertise in yacht regulations, stability and seakeeping, weight engineering, performance prediction, hull optimisation and model testing, sea trials, structural finite element analysis and concept design procurement.
